Newfriars College is a Specialist FE College with 200+ learners aged between 16 and 25 who have a range of Special Educational Needs. At Newfriars, we are creating a vision that places our learners and their families at the heart of everything we do.

Newfriars College provides a Preparation for Adulthood curriculum for young people who have a range of SEND including complex needs. The College is working with young people and their families to give them the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to live their best possible adult life – be that in employment, volunteering, further study, independent or supported living.

At Newfriars College we offer a broad curriculum offer delivered a wide range of accredited courses including GCSE, NCFE and BTEC as well as our innovative College ‘Step Up’ Qualification programme. We pride ourselves on providing a practical, skills based, personalised curriculum offer for all of our young people to ensure we support the breadth of needs of our young people at the College.

We work collaboratively with our local community and with our parents/carers. Our rich curriculum offer is outwards facing actively engaging our young people with their community. We have a wide range of community and volunteer opportunities as well as College based ‘real-life’ learning opportunities. There is considerable scope for creativity and development of new opportunities.

We offer our curriculum across three Pathways: Vocational Pathway, Independent Living Pathway and Supported Living Pathway. Our curriculum offer embeds additional therapies and assistive technologies and communication to meet the individual needs of our young people.

Our vision is to maximise opportunities within the community and provide a breadth and richness of experience that enables all our learners to reach their full potential and be part of an inclusive society. Newfriars College is an Independent Specialist Day College in North Staffordshire dedicated to supporting young people with learning difficulties and disabilities aged 16–25.

We provide specialist resources and facilities for all our learners and have an excellent support network within the local area. This provides the college with many opportunities including transition routes into the wider community, employment and supported work experience, independent living and specialist support from highly skilled multi-agency professionals and therapists. Learning in the community and vocational education is extremely important and we are eager to successfully prepare our young peoples for adulthood.

SEND

Our Specialist settings cater for children and young people with a wide range of Specialist Educational Needs, including profound medical needs, sensory needs and emotional and mental health needs.

All the pupils within our Specialist settings have an individualised education and are educated in small classes and groups with enhanced support to ensure that all of their needs are met. There is nothing more rewarding than being part of a team that supports a child or young person with Specialist Educational Needs to reach their goals.
